In 2010 I wrote an article on my cannabis activism website about civil asset forfeiture, and how the government was using the the National Parks Service, BLM, National Gaurd and other federal and local agencies to set people up, and steal their land. The Donald Scott case is the particular case that I reported on, but there are thousands of these cases like this.
The agencies claimed that Donald Scott had a marijuana grow at his property (that was worth millions), and after several agents that did surveillance reported that there was no marijuana, they raided Donald Scott anyway. In the end they killed Donald Scott, and they found no marijuana on the property what so ever. The investigation into this resulted in showing that the Park Service was participating in “land acquisition”, just like the ranchers that they are going after and have been going after for decades, where they trump up false charges, give them heavy fines, and try to obtain the land for pennies on the dollar, or free.
So when people go around claiming that these ranchers deserve it, or that they don’t care, or that the ranchers have no right to stand up for themselves. (especially cannabis people). Just look at all of the “smash and grabs” that the feds do at medical cannabis shops all across the country, where they accuse the property of crimes, and steal the property, often without giving anyone any criminal charges, just realize this could be YOU. This is legal, yet immoral. The feds collect millions of dollars every year by doing civil asset forfeiture, and often there is no drugs or crime involved. But since there is hefty legal fees, going through the civil court process, and the fact that they victims could face criminal penalties if they speak up, most just let millions disappear into the government hands.

Here is another example of this. There are thousands! http://reason.com/reasontv/2014/08/25/over-455000-seized-from-medical-marijuan
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me
