Memorial of Ruby Ridge, 23 years later

Today is the 23rd anniversary of the Ruby Ridge, Weaver family massacre.   On August 21st 1992, six federal marshall’s illegally entered Randy Weaver’s family property in an attempt to surveil Randy Weaver who had missed a court date, on his very first ever criminal charge and for guns that he was entrapped to sell to an undercover agent.   While scouting his property in northern Idaho, these federal agents came across a young boy and his dog, later identified as Samuel Weaver, the dog barked and gave away the agent’s location, so they illegally shot the dog in front of 14 year old Samuel Weaver.   Samuel then returned fire, not hitting any thing and then turned around and ran towards the family cabin at the top of the hill.   While he was running away from the federal agents, they used an MP5 and opened up an full automatic spray of bullets at the young boy’s back, hitting him several times, and nearly shooting his arm off as well as  hitting him several times in the back.   One of Randy’s friend’s Kevin Harris who was a neighbor of the family, shoots back and hits one of the federal agents who later died (I really don’t even care to go an look for his name).

These people left the city in Iowa, in order to get out of civilization and to life off grid in Idaho and mind their own business.   Randy Weaver is a former Army special forces soldier, and is a clean cut, hard working man with no prior criminal record.  He ended up moving next to the Aryan Nations, and attended their church a few times, but wasn’t aligned with all of their beliefs and backed away from the group.  But during one of his visits to the Aryan Nations the FBI agents notice him and investigates him and think how good of an informant Randy would make.  So they tried to entrap him in gun charges.  Initially asking Randy to sell the agents more advanced firepower, but when it’s obvious Randy doesn’t have access to machines guns and such, they then asked him to saw off two shots guns for the agents, for $700.  Which Randy did.  After that, they give him the whole “you work for us as an informant, or we’ll file this federal firearm violation charges against you”.  Randy turned them down, and then they gave him the summons to go to court.   Randy never showed up for court.  This is what sparked the illegal surveillance, the illegal entrance to their property without a warrant, and the illegal murder of the young boy Samuel Weaver and his dog.   The family stayed bunker-ed down in their offgrid cabin for several weeks during a “Stand off”, and was convinced that they would not make it off the mountain alive with their remaining 3 children.
Eventually the FBI changed it’s rules of engagement, and authorized “shoot to kill” orders which allowed them to use deadly force which “can and should be used” against any adult male holding a weapon, and eventually they shot up Randy Weaver, directly after that they snipe Vicky Weaver while she his holding a 10 month old baby, and they hit her right between the eyes, then that bullet leaves Vicky Weaver and hits Kevin Harris in the arm.  So now out of six people at the cabin, four of the people at the Weaver property were shot, and two were dead, which happened to be a 14 year old boy, and an unarmed mother who was holding nothing buy a baby in her own house.

Eventually the family was coaxed off the mountain.  The charges against Randy Weaver were eventually dropped, the government issued a settlement for the damages, and admitted guilt.  A few of the officers were charged with crimes.  Lon Tomohisa Horiuchi was charged with murder, but the charges were dismissed.  Lon Horiuchi was also instrumental in the murders that occurred by the government at the Waco Texas siege of the Branch Dividian Church where dozens of children were burned to death as well as many adults shot and killed, despite that they had not harmed anyone.

I was 14 years old when this happened.  I lived in Utah at the time, so this happened in the area that I lived in, and hit very close to home.   I eventually lived with a so-called skinhead who was dating my cousin who I grew up with.   I lived with them off and on for two years.   Because of that, some of my family, and maybe some of my friends, identified me as a “skinhead”.  I identified with skinheads, but I never was a part of any group.  I just shaved my head and had tattoos.   Sammy was just a few months older than me at the time, and this attack on him and his family really hit home to me.   I still think about it.

It’s also interesting to me, that my son was born on this day.  Happy birthday Iriel.  He is such a sweet, and loving little boy.

If anyone is first called a “conspiracy theorist” and then the conspiracy that they are talking about, becomes a reality, it is no longer a “theory” it becomes a fact.

RIP – Vicky Weaver and Samuel Weaver, you will not be forgotten.
