The Trump administration has hit dangerous ground with libertarians

I can say up to this point, I have not been extremely alarmed by the actions of the Trump administration.
I was not pleased with the immigration ban, but it is clear that the previous government passed that law, and restricted all 7 countries via HB 158 by the 141st congress and Obama signed it.  Trump has ran on the platform of immigration reform and restrictions.  Which is why that didn’t surprise me, even though I am not pleased with it.  The other issue that I think is regressive, and an expensive waste is the wall.  However that is something else that he explicitly ran on, so no surprise there either.

Fast forward February 7th (yesterday), where Trump make a startling statement about civil asset forfeiture, where when

Sheriff Harold Eavenson of Rockwall County, Texas, told Trump of his response to a state lawmaker who had introduced legislation requiring suspects first be convicted before assets could be seized.

“I told him that the cartel would build a monument to him in Mexico if he could get that legislation passed,” Eavenson said.

“Who was the state senator?” Trump asked.

“You want to give his name? We’ll destroy his career,” the president deadpanned, to laughter.

Eavenson did not identify the lawmaker, but a Republican state senator has introduced similar legislation in Texas. The Texas Observer magazine reported that the bill had support from Republicans and Democrats.

This is an issue that is a concern from many on all sides of the political spectrum.
The USA confiscates hundreds of millions of dollars of assets from innocent Americans yearly.  I have wrote about this on my website xCannabis for years.

This is a shady an corrupt practice that is commonly abused by police.   If there is no conviction, there should be no right to steal a person’s assets.  That is the whole reason for a court system.
